In conducting this study, we set out to assess Calvin Hill's success in fulfilling its mission and to strengthen-and perhaps expand its ability to provide high-quality, affordable childcare to Yale and New Haven families. We also sought to reflect on what we believe is a significant contribution to Yale and the broader New Haven community. As a small nonprofit, Calvin Hill Day Care Center (CHDCC) did not have the capacity to conduct a comprehensive impact study on its own. Thanks to a generous grant from the Kapor Foundation, we were able to examine, evaluate, and showcase what we do best - the care and education of young children, the support of their families, the academic engagement of undergraduates, and the creation of a diverse and inclusive learning community. Through our research, we connected with many sectors of our community, gathered thoughtful responses, and listened to the voices of those who have been a part of the Calvin Hill experience. We are proud to say that this study reaffirms our belief that our small school has had a lasting influence on our families, Yale University, its employees and students, our teachers and fellows, the wider New Haven community, and even beyond.
I invite you to join me in supporting the Annual Fund of Calvin Hill Day Care Center and the Kitty Lustman-Findling Kindergarten. I also invite you to reflect on your own relationship with Calvin Hill as I share my heartfelt gratitude for this school and what it means to me.
This year, Mitch Kapor, a member of the Yale Class of '71, and his wife, Dr. Freada Kapor Klein, have pledged a matching gift for all donations to Calvin Hill Day Care Center, up to $25,000.
